...all they have to do is limit the control granted via the card..
What? How to do that? This is likely a buffer overflow exploit where a small part of the driver gets overwritten with hacker-incerted code, this code then runs inside the kernel at that point nothing can be done.
They will have to fix the defect that alowed the buffer to overflow. No other option.
This really shows the value of Open Source. So many peopl have loked for this type of stuff in Linux and other OSes that I'm sure most of it is been found and fixed but closed souce drivers are so hard to examine that there could be a hundred more of these waiting to be discovered.

In addition, your conduct violates your own "Corporate Code of Ethics," making a mockery of your supposed corporate values.
You should be ashamed of your luddite and monopolistic behavior.
I really do believe that Sam Walton would be very upset at the path Wal-Mart has taken.

That's my concern too... Mine developed random shutdowns a week ago and it is truly random - it's happened on occasions when I wasn't even pushing the cpu much. I'm afraid the Mac will shutdown as I'm applying the firmware fix...
I have an appt at a genius bar later tonight to send my MacBook in for the random shutdown issue. I'll install this first and see how it goes. And if I brick it... well that's another thing I can tell the Apple employee

I assume you mean headless tower since all the iMacs and the MAC Mini are desktops......... Oh wait, isn't the MAC Pro a headless tower?
It's a workstation, not a desktop. Yes there is a difference.

This just proves how idiotic humanity is. These songs have been available in multiple formats for over 40 years, but only now, since they are offered in a lossy digital file, do people buy them.
yes!
because EVERYONE has custom IEMs and pro level studio monitors hooked up to their professional amps in their phones, cars, gym headphones....jk no they don't.
Protip: Some people just wanna listen to the music. They don't care about the nuances removed by going to MP3 or an otherwise lossy format because their equipment is probably less than adequate to accentuate the difference anyway.

Has anyone noticed that the refurb section at the Apple Online Store is completely out of stock of all 15" and 13" Macbook Pros? I can't remember this being the case recently and it makes me wonder if this is related to a possible new release of those size configurations. There are multiple configs of the 17" MBP available.
This has been brought up a lot, and the consensus seems to be that refurb inventory doesn't correlate at all with an impending release.

You know, i dont think apple, motorola, or IBM cares. We will, regardless almost, buy macs next time. A mac is a mac, and a mac user, never goes to a pc. They may use one in preference to a mac, but, they still look at the mac market and hope for a time when they ca move back. I did. 4 years ago i couldnt afford a mac. Now i can, guess which company has an order for two of their professional machines????
Apple doesnt care because of this.
Motorola doesnt care because they make more money elsewhere
IBM doesnt care because they sell pcs and loads of other stuff for computers so they dont need to depend on anyone.
We are 5% of people with computers. If i had to make a hardware marketing decision, which group do you think i want to please?????

Really like this one Jason. The lighting is right on, and I love the concept of the photo. The fact that your model is stunningly beautiful doesn't hurt either.
May I ask as to the strobes you're using, and how you have them placed? I have a two light strobe system but am still learning to place them for greatest effect.

Here's an idea:
I can't imagine Target, Best Buy, Circuit City... have any great love for Wal-Mart, and I'd imagine that between them, they represenent a reasonably large slice of the DVD-sales market. Not only that, but as ubiquitous as Wal-Mart is, the other big-box stores also have quite a large footprint. So, what if Apple teams up with them in some way? Of course the movie studios would need to be convinced that such an idea would work.
For instance, if you buy a DVD at any of those places, you receive a code number on your receipt that would allow you to buy any other movie, produced by that studio, for $11.99 (or some price that represents a discount from iTunes's standard pricing). You would enter this code when purchasing the film from Apple's store. To prevent someone guessing or making up a valid code, perhaps there would be two codes that would be entered -- The code(s) would be sent to iTunes by the retailer's computer at the time of purchase, and the consumer would be prompted for them at the time of his or her iTunes purchase.
People would probably be inclined to choose Target (or whatever the retailer) over Wal-Mart for DVDs because they get the DVD they want as well as the option of downloading an iTunes movie at a discount. They could even give a friend or family member the code(s) if there are no movies they themselves are interested in downloading. The retailer, of course, benefits from added sales and the knowledge they've taken business away from Wal-Mart.
This is just a rough example of something Apple might consider doing. I'm sure there are many other methods of Apple teaming with retailers--perhaps even online retailers--to overcome Wal-Mart's bullying and economic fascism.
There's also the American panacea: have Steve Jobs go on Oprah and explain to America what Wal-Mart is doing...

Nice quote on Engadget's website: "iWhore, therefore iPod."
I voted Negative because we all know Steve is furious that Microsoft is releasing a wireless MP3 player before Apple. The iP$d needs some serious revamping.
the zune isn't out yet...
